A LEGACY OF GLASS INDUSTRY INNOVATION
Since its founding, Fuse Tech has been an innovator in the glass industry, serving customers in the United States and internationally.
Fuse Tech was founded by Carl Firestone in 1993 and began serving the glass and coke industries. In 2001, Donald Shamp took over as President of Fuse Tech, bringing more than 50 years of experience in industrial glass furnace operations and repair to the company. Under Donald’s leadership, Fuse Tech expanded internationally, offering ceramic welding services and consulting services worldwide. Donald served as President & CEO of Fuse Tech and Hot Tech until his passing in 2022.
Today, Fuse Tech is led by Scott Henry, President. Prior to his new role as President and owner of Fuse Tech, Scott served as Vice President and has been a vital part of company leadership for many years.
Recognizing Fuse Tech Leadership
Donald Shamp graduated from Manchester College in 1959 with a B.S. in Chemistry, and then in 1963 earned a Chemical Engineering Degree from Toledo University. Donald worked at Libbey Owens Ford in Rossford, Ohio, for 25 years as an Assistant Manager and at John-Manville for 15 years as a National Furnace Engineering Troubleshooter.
As an industry innovator, Donald held 13 patents in glass manufacturing processes.
Donald’s glass industry patents range from processes for treating glass furnaces to methods for treating glass silica in refractories. He also developed the early techniques for using pure oxygen in place of air for filtering systems in glass manufacturing.
The legacy of patents held by Fuse Tech’s Donald Shamp for glass industry processes and devices include areas such as:
- A method for treating refractory silica material in the vault and side walls of a glass furnace.
- A process for treating glass furnaces to eliminate crystalline scale formation.
- A method for repairing furnace roofs during heat-up.
- A approach to heating glass by combustion with pure oxygen or oxygen-enriched air.
